Anniversary Dinner at Kesuma

Our 7th wedding anniversary is definitely our most memorable so far. We rode to Borobudur on our rented motorbike and it took us one and a half hours each way. On the way back, I carried a keropok tin with me. I’m probably the only person in the world to request for, and receive, a keropok tin for an anniversary gift!

After our morning at the amazing Borobudur, we had a wonderful massage at the hotel spa and then dinner at Kesuma. Kesuma is a family restaurant serving traditional Javanese cuisine prepared with fresh local ingredients.

Our dinner was superb. I loved my sup udung, an Indonesian-style tom yum soup, and I drank it to the last drop. Adrian’s lumpia isi ayam (chicken spring roll) sounded ordinary but was tasty. Our main courses were very flavourful. Adrian had the ayam kesuma (chicken roasted with ginger, chili, cashew nuts and pineapple) and I had the kakap bumbu bali (snapper fillet roasted in a spicy sauce with Balinese bumbu genap besar spices). They were both delicious.

Just the Way You Are

Very busy with work at the moment but taking a few minutes to share an old post for a Proposal Stories Linky. If you look at my blog archives, you’d see that it only goes back to 2008 even though I’ve been blogging for 10 years because I didn’t import the older entries from my previous blog. But this was written on 18 July 2004 and is the story of how Adrian proposed to me more than 8 years ago:

Had a wonderful, wonderful night at Foster’s. After dinner, we sat there in the cushy armchairs and relaxed to the live music. Just before finishing his set, Joe (the singing man) asked, “Anyone wanna sing?” and, to my tremendous surprise, Adrian got up and went to the mic. And accompanied by Joe on the guitar, he sang…

Don’t go changing to try and please me,
You never let me down before.
And don’t imagine you’re too familiar,
And I don’t see you anymore.

I wouldn’t leave you in times of trouble,
We never could have come this far.
I took the good times, I’ll take the bad times,
I’ll take you just the way you are.

Don’t go trying some new fashion.
Don’t change the colour of your hair.
You always have my unspoken passion,
Although I might not seem to care.

I don’t want clever conversation,
I never want to work that hard.
I just want someone that I can talk to,
I want you just the way you are.

Then he went down on one knee and out came the ring which he’d been hiding in his jeans pocket the whole night. I was in tears and couldn’t stop smiling. Some nice lady from another table sent us champagne. It was truly a perfect night.

He’d been planning it for ages and the night before, he was there making secret arrangements with the manager and Joe. Of course, it helps that he actually CAN sing. ;) I never thought he’d be able to surprise me like this but he did and I couldn’t be happier (even though I still gave him many fake evil glares for ’embarrassing’ me).

I could not love you any better,
I love you just the way you are.

Will you marry me?

18 Grams of Love

Sinema is no longer at Old School but has tied up with Golden Village and is now screening indie and speciality films at various GV theatres.

To kick off this collaboration, Sinema screened 18 Grams of Love (2007) by local director Han Yew Kwang at GV Grand yesterday and I went to catch it with a friend. The director was there for a short Q&A session at the end of the film.

I was quite impressed by the movie and I must say that it’s one of the best local films I’ve ever seen. 18 Grams of Love is a charming and light-hearted comedy of errors and the plot centres around two friends who attempt to test the fidelity of their wives by writing love letters. The title is the weight of a love letter. Of course, hilarious chaos ensues.

There was a great deal of chemistry and comic timing between the four lead actors: Adam Chen, Alaric Tay, Yeo Yann Yann and Magdalene See. The movie is very funny but it also encourages the audience to think seriously about love, relationships and communication.

I enjoyed the show tremendously and would love to watch it again (my friend was watching it for the third time!) and also hope to watch Han Yew Kwang’s other films as well.

10 Years of Couplehood

that’s us 10 years ago!

It’s hard to believe but Adrian and I started dating 10 years ago today! Within the last 10 years, we got engaged, got married and produced two kids. We are older, (much) heavier but very happy. And with God’s grace, I hope that we will have many, many more years together as a couple!

Anniversary Dinner at Todai

We dumped the kids at my mum’s and went to celebrate our anniversary at Todai! It’s not a particularly romantic place, I know, but we are practical people and I wanted oysters! There were so many different things to eat that it made my head spin. I stuffed myself with oysters and desserts,  Adrian had a good time feasting on the snow crab legs and we were both thoroughly happy!

It’s been 5 years!!

It’s our 5th anniversary! Can’t believe we’ve been married for 5 years! It’s been a great journey! I usually post pictures from the church wedding when it’s our anniversary so here are some pictures just to relive the memories of our wedding dinner:

Look how slim I was 5 years ago!! Where has my tiny waist gone?? Boohoohoo!

Adrian was singing and walking towards me which was why I was standing on my own

Cheers to 5 happy years and many, many more to come! :)
