The Journey – Adam’s Kindergarten Concert

After watching Anya perform 2 years in a row, it was Adam’s turn last Saturday and we attended his kindy performance at UCC. Since he’s just in K1 and it wasn’t his graduation performance, we were quite chill throughout the entire process. Pretty sure it will be a different story when we see him in his little graduation gown next year!

MM 1000x600px V1(11May)-04

Mister Maker and the Shapes live on stage!

If there’s one programme that my three kids can agree on, it’s Mister Maker. They love watching him create art from anything and everything around him. We’re really excited that we will be able to catch Mister Maker live in his first ever theatre tour in Singapore! There are seven shows only from 10 to 12 June 2016.

During this interactive live show, there’s going to be a big ‘make’ to take part in, lots of opportunities for audience participation and The Shapes! When we watch Mister Maker at home, the kids all get up and bounce around when Circle, Square, Rectangle and Triangle appear on screen.

Gardens by the Bay Children’s Festival

After watching Disney on Ice, we rushed to Gardens by the Bay to enjoy some of their Children’s Festival activities and performances! We got there just in time to watch Rainbows in the Water, a water play performance based on the classic story of The Rainbow Fish. We were seated quite far back in the sheltered area of the Children’s Garden so we didn’t have a good view of the performance but it looked super fun and colourful from where we were.

We also managed to catch Fairy Galaxy at the Supertree Grove. This performance of Cinderella was set in the future with psychedelic costumes and the kids really enjoyed it. There were many other exciting activities and performances that we didn’t get to check out since we were in a rush but here’s the schedule for the festival that ends this weekend!

Cirque Eloize iD

The circus is in town! Last Friday, I took Adam to Marina Bay Sands to catch Cirque Eloize iD and we had such a good time.It was so awesome to see his face light up  with excitement with every act. He kept turning to me and saying Wow! and it was obvious that he enjoyed himself very much.

Adam was particularly impressed by the opening act of the very strong man who was able to lift and throw a woman with the greatest of ease and even balance her on the top of his head! He kept wanting me to try balancing him on my head during the interval.

He couldn’t tear his eyes away from the act in which one of the performers climbed up several chairs that were balancing on each other. He whispered that he was scared (so was I!) that the man was going to fall and was so relieved when the act was a great success. The bicycle stunt involving a member of the audience also had him on the edge of his seat.

I loved how the creative projections brought the set to life and transformed the stage from an urban setting of tall buildings to a busy construction site and many other eye-popping futuristic images. I was fascinated by the flexibility of the contortionist and when I thought she couldn’t possibly bend any further, she proved me wrong and blew my mind!

My favourite bits were the aerial acts of the hoop and silks and I was awed by the strength and agility of the performers. The energetic dancers that tied the acts together also made this circus act unlike any others I have seen.

Hello, Gruffalo!

It seemed like just another ordinary Saturday morning but the kids were actually in for a treat! The Gruffalo dropped by and paid us a visit to the delight of the older children (and the horror of the younger ones).

The kids adore the Gruffalo (terrible tusks and all) and love to read about him, watch him on DVD, and see him in action on the stage. So when the Gruffalo himself appeared at their grandfather’s doorstep with his knobbly knees and turned out toes, they were beside themselves with excitement!

The babies were a bit frightened of this creature with orange eyes and purple prickles, but when it was time for him to go, they decided to put aside their fear and gave him high fives and hugs. The older ones couldn’t bear to see him go and followed him all the way to the lift.

Bye bye, Gruffalo! Please come back again!

You can still catch The Gruffalo and the other forest creatures from the story at SOTA Drama Theatre tomorrow at 10 am, 12 pm and 3 pm. The Gruffalo is one of 6 productions being performed over 4 weeks (from now until 14 Feb) for Kidsfest 2016 and it’s extremely entertaining for the whole family!

Also check out the other Kidsfest 2016 shows – Room on the Broom, I Believe in Unicorns, Snow Child, Little Red Riding Hood, and Aliens Love Underpants – because tickets are selling fast!

Tasmania Day 7 & 8: Salamanca Market & Farm Gate Market

We left Bruny Island very early to make our way back to the airport so that we could return our camper van and get a rental car. I wanted to get to Salamanca Market as early as possible. Salamanca Market is a street market in Hobart and is held on Saturdays between 8.30 am and 3 pm. There’s so much to see, eat and buy!

I love how almost everything in Salamanca Market is grown or made in Tasmania. We bought some honey, magnets, baby bibs, and books. The author was there to autograph the books we bought! And I know I’ve said this in many of the Tasmania posts, but Salamanca Market is definitely a must-do when in Tasmania.

Another market we visited was Farm Gate Market. Farm Gate Market operates every Sunday on Bathurst St, from 8.30 am – 1 pm. I was delighted to see Get Shucked oysters from Bruny Island at the market and had half a dozen for a second breakfast.

If we are lucky enough to go to Tasmania again, we will make sure we visit Farm Gate Market to stock up before we embark on our camper van journey so that we can have lots of local vegetables, meat and bread for our trip.

Pororo Park at Marina Square

Pororo Park Singapore opens at Marina Square today! It’s the first ever Pororo Park in Southeast Asia and is themed after the award-winning top Korean animation ‘Pororo the Little Penguin’. We checked it out over the weekend and all three kids had a blast even though they are not very familiar with Pororo and his friends.

Pororo Park consists of the Shark Ball Pool, Pororo Express train track, Poby’s Jungle Gym playground, Pororo House, a toddler area, Eddy & Petty’s activity room and TongTong’s Little Theatre. Outside, you can find Loopy’s Cafe with seating area and a Rody’s Toy Store. The place is not all that big and I feel that it is generally more suitable for those 5 and below. Anya had a great time though and has been bugging me to take her and her brothers there again.

The admission rates are on the higher side, especially if you are not a member or don’t qualify for partner rates (cardholders of DBS, OCBC, Popular, SAFRA and Starhub), and is valid for 2 hours only with additional charges for extra time spent inside. Adults have to pay accompanying rates.
