CBeebies Birthday Celebrations

We celebrated CBeebies‘ birthday at Art Boot Camp on 11 July and the kids spent an hour sketching and colouring their favourite CBeebies characters and also decorated a giant birthday card for CBeebies. The highlight of the day for the kids was spending time with CBeebies mascots the Teletubbies, Super Numtum, and ZingZillas and cutting the birthday cake together.

David’s 1st Birthday – Party at Happy Willow

It’s been almost a month since David’s birthday party at Happy Willow and I’m finally getting around to blogging about it. Have been very busy with work and so tired every day and I crash after the kids go to bed and have no time to sit in front of the computer!

Since David doesn’t have any actual friends, the party was more for our friends and their kids to gather and hang out. It was quite casual and we didn’t have any particular theme for the party. Now that we have three kids, I’m a lot less hung up about party prep and goody bags and all the peripheral stuff. As long we have a location and food, there’s really no need to worry about anything else.

It was so nice to have our friends with us to celebrate David’s first birthday. My sister (Alpha Bakes) made an amazingly delicious and pretty cake for him. The kids had a lot of fun at Happy Willow and were moving around so quickly that we didn’t manage to get any good photos of them. We did get them to stay still long enough for some pictures at the photo booth though!

Kith at Quayside Isle: Adrian’s Birthday

We celebrated Adrian’s birthday at Kith, Quayside Isle last Sunday and it was crowded! We had to wait some time for our table, but when we got settled, the food came quite quickly and it was all good. While they still don’t have child-friendly cutlery and crockery (read: not breakable!), they put the kids’ drinks in their takeaway coffee cup with a straw inside, which was very helpful.

This is probably the first time we are meeting when it’s just us and all the kids. I always imagine that we are asking for a table for 5 with a few high chairs to add on here and there. It’s hard to think of ourselves as a party of 9!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Adam!

Adam Turns 3

My dearest little boy, you are now 3 years old! You have been a middle child for 7 months but you don’t seem too affected by it. You are still your sweet and good-natured self and you are always loving towards your brother and to everyone else in the family. You are easy to love too and you dispense hugs and kisses readily. I love your kind heart and your cheeky sense of humour. Whenever you see me in a dress, you declare that my outfit is so nice and that I am ‘Princess Mummy of Arendelle’!

Lately, you have been throwing terrible tantrums and it’s impossible to reason with you and scolding you achieves nothing either. I know it’s a difficult age for you because you are thinking and feeling so much but not always able to express yourself as clearly as you would like. You are fond of asking me, “When I’m naughty, do you still love me?” and I always tell you that I love you all the time, no matter what.

It’s hard for you to be patient when you want something and get no for an answer because the notion of delayed gratification is not something you appreciate. You have a love-hate relationship with your sister as well. When I see the two of you playing so happily, I know that having more than one kid is the best decision ever. But when you fight with each other and scream at the top of your lungs, I just want to hide somewhere until the chaos is over!

I’m glad that you are enjoying school and that you have friends you like playing with. Chinese enrichment class for you is not the best use of my money, however, and you can barely remember anything you learn there!  And to think I actually tried speaking to you in Mandarin when you were a baby!

Going from 2 to 3 years old has been a big leap for you and you have grown so much, both physically and mentally, and reached so many milestones along the way. To be honest, the past year was quite a blur and I find myself wondering where my squishy, babbling little toddler has disappeared to!

I love you more than I can adequately put in words and it’s not just because you’re the only one of my three kids who looks like me! Your open and guileless nature touches my heart and I want to protect you and keep you safe. God bless you, my sweetheart. You have an exciting year ahead of you.

Happy Birthday, LolliBox!

We celebrated LolliBox’s 2nd birthday on Saturday with a crafty party held at Treehouse Cafe at Grandstand. It was a very chill party and we just sat around and did some craft while munching on breakfast. I made a door knob hanger and Anya made a bunch of flowers. Happy birthday, LolliBox, and we wish you many more crafty years ahead!

Anya’s 5th Birthday: A Swinging Good Time at LilliPutt

We had a birthday celebration for Anya at LilliPutt this year and invited her friends from school and her cousins. The place is a bit run-down but the kids had fun the last time we were there so we thought her friends would like it too. Anya wanted to wear her Cinderella gown and since it was her birthday party, we let her and even encouraged the other little girls to wear princess gowns if they wanted to. So we had Cinderella, Aurora, Elsa and Sofia the first!

It was a fun party and relatively stress-free for us (except that Adam was being angsty and kept clinging to me and wanted to be carried, etc). We didn’t really bother with a theme or with decorations because the place was already done up in a colourful and festive manner. The staff at LilliPutt were very helpful and organised, and ensured that everything ran smoothly. We really appreciated their help. It’s a great place for a party and would be better if the seating area for the grown-ups was right beside the party area instead of further away.

Anya was on her best behaviour that day and didn’t sulk or throw any tantrums. I know she doesn’t need a big party every year but I do enjoy the parties as much as she does and the birthday celebrations are probably going to get a lot simpler when she’s in primary school. I can’t believe I’m a mother to a 5-year-old! I also can’t believe I have 3 kids 5 years and below, but that’s another story altogether.

Anya’s 5th Birthday: Celebration in School

We celebrated Anya’s birthday in school a day before we left for a short trip to Ho Chi Minh City. I was looking back at the photos from her 3rd and 4th birthday celebrations in school and realised that she has a round Bengawan Solo cake every year. Totally unplanned but an interesting coincidence! This time, we got little wooden model kits for the boys and felt stitching/ cross stitch kits for the girls. Reinforcing stereotypes, I know.

We pulled Adam out of his class to join in the celebration. I think Anya was happy to have her brother there because she can get a bit self-conscious when she’s the centre of attention. You can see her holding on to his hand the entire time while they are in front! I really cherish these celebrations in school because I know we won’t be able to do it anymore when the kids are out of kindergarten.
