Celebrating Christmas with Tangram Tees

We’re bringing matchy-matchy clothing for the kids to a whole new level with Tangram tees from fabricate.sg! The Tangram tee is a t-shirt that encourages kids to use their creativity to come up with as many different patterns on the shirt as they want and as often as they like.

Each shirt comes with seven reusable shapes that form the Tangram and there are over 6,500 patterns that can be made! Add an alphabet pack (or two) and you essentially have a t-shirt that you can customise for any and every occasion. The possibilities are endless and the kids will have an item of clothing that is also a canvas to showcase their creativity!

We took our Tangram tees for a test drive at Legoland Malaysia and decided to make them appropriately festive for Christmas at the theme park. We used the alphabets for Season’s Greetings and the shapes to form the tangram of a gift and a Christmas tree.

The Best is Yet to Be

And just like that, we have been married for ten years! What an incredible journey it has been. We started out with just the two of us and along the way, the three kids came along and completed our family. In 10 years, we have moved once, changed cars 3 times, gone on to his 2nd job and my 3rd, and put on lots of weight together. It wasn’t always smooth sailing and we have had our fair share of arguments. But truly, he is my best friend and partner. I could not ask for more.

Grow Old A10ng With Me!

Adrian and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary on Thursday and what an amazing decade it has been! I wanted to get him a really special gift and when I bumped into Frus at Public Garden several months ago, I knew I had found the perfect present for him.

Frus (say froo-se) was founded by Ben and Joanne and they design the cutest cards, stickers, and totes with whimsical local designs. The ABCs according to Frus is Ang Ku Kueh, Bak Zhang and Chicken Rice and learning the alphabet with their A-Z Local Food Print is probably the yummiest way to do so. Besides their illustrated cards and bags, they also design custom prints for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and any other occasion you can think of.

I contacted them sometime in August (they need a lead time of about 2 months) and chatted with Joanne about what I had in mind. She sent me a list of questions about our relationship and asked me for photos of Adrian and me taken during our courtship, wedding, etc. and photos of the kids as well. She emailed me the first draft soon after and I asked for some edits and after going through that process a few times, this is the final product:

As expected, Adrian loves his 10th anniversary gift and I’m just incredibly wowed by how she turned the information and photos that I provided into something so special to us. By the way, I came up with the Grow Old A10ng With Me tagline that incorporates the number 10 so if you find it cheesy, I accept complete responsibility!

You can find Frus on Naiise and they also accept orders through their Facebook page and email (). The full list of items available is on their Facebook page so check them out and ‘Like’ them. They will be appearing at the Public Garden Christmas Flea on 21, 22, 28 & 29 November at F1 Pit Building. Do drop by and support Frus because they are such a lovely local business!

So Much Fun at LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia!

Last month, we drove over the Causeway and checked ourselves into LEGOLAND Hotel. We didn’t tell the kids that we were headed there and once it came into view, they were beside themselves in excitement! We stayed here in December 2013 and since then, the kids have been asking to come back.

While we busied ourselves with checking in, the kids were playing to their hearts’ content in the pirate ship and castle play areas in the lobby. The LEGO play areas are such a good idea because the kids are happily occupied while the parents handle the boring task of getting the room keys.

During our last visit, we stayed at the Adventure themed room so we decided to try out the Kingdom themed room this time around. I just love all the themed LEGO features in the room and the kids cannot get enough of their bunk beds and TV and LEGO set to play with. If not for the fact that the theme park is an even bigger draw, we may never be able to get them out of the room!

Of course, we adults also appreciate having a huge bed that we don’t need to share with the kids and our own TV. For dinner, after a long day at both the water and theme parks, we ordered room service and chilled out in front of our respective TV sets before having a good night’s sleep.

Special mention goes to the LEGOLAND Hotel themed lifts. Whenever we take the lifts up or down, the kids start dancing up a storm when the disco lights and music come on. Even the adults can’t help grooving to the beat!

Breakfast in the LEGOLAND Hotel Bricks Family Restaurant is a decent affair and there is a good variety of food available from the typical continental breakfast sort of bread, eggs and sausages, to nasi lemak for those who prefer something local. It can get crowded and a queue may form during the busiest period in the morning but the kids will be kept entertained by the large foam bricks in the area just outside the restaurant.

It just makes perfect sense to stay at LEGOLAND Hotel when you are visiting the theme park and water park so that the kids can play all afternoon, check into the hotel and have a wee nap, continue playing their heart out, and then have a good night’s rest without anyone having to drive or take the bus all the way back to Singapore after a long tiring day. Can’t wait to come back again and the next time, we’ll probably book the Pirate themed room!

Getting Ready for Primary 1

Anya’s going for her Primary One orientation next week. Can’t believe she’s only got a few days of school left in kindergarten and will be headed to Primary school in less than 2 months! The other day, I was telling her to cherish the time she had left with her classmates and she was also shocked to realise that she had so little time left with them and was quite upset and couldn’t sleep. Poor kid.

We headed to Smiggle to get her a new school bag and she chose one in blue because that’s her favourite colour. Some people say that Smiggle bags don’t last that long but I also hear that ergonomic bags are terribly heavy even without anything inside so I think this will work for now until we figure out something better. After all, it’s cute and quite affordable.

We also dropped by Bibi & Baba to get her school uniforms. She looks so different and so grown up in her new uniform. Where has my baby gone? She said the uniform is too loose but I think she just needs to get used to it. Pretty sure I’ll be in tears on the first day of school!

Now that Anya’s heading to Primary school and going to turn 7, I’ll probably not blog about her so much and I will also have fewer photos of her on the blog. Don’t think she’ll appreciate having all the details of her life on the blog for her new friends and their parents to stumble upon!

Pororo Park at Marina Square

Pororo Park Singapore opens at Marina Square today! It’s the first ever Pororo Park in Southeast Asia and is themed after the award-winning top Korean animation ‘Pororo the Little Penguin’. We checked it out over the weekend and all three kids had a blast even though they are not very familiar with Pororo and his friends.

Pororo Park consists of the Shark Ball Pool, Pororo Express train track, Poby’s Jungle Gym playground, Pororo House, a toddler area, Eddy & Petty’s activity room and TongTong’s Little Theatre. Outside, you can find Loopy’s Cafe with seating area and a Rody’s Toy Store. The place is not all that big and I feel that it is generally more suitable for those 5 and below. Anya had a great time though and has been bugging me to take her and her brothers there again.

The admission rates are on the higher side, especially if you are not a member or don’t qualify for partner rates (cardholders of DBS, OCBC, Popular, SAFRA and Starhub), and is valid for 2 hours only with additional charges for extra time spent inside. Adults have to pay accompanying rates.

Seussical the Musical

Seussical the Musical

Seussical the Musical

Seussical the Musical begins with monkeys scampering wildly through the audience and the action does not let up for the rest of the 75 minutes! Wacky, lively and loud, Seussical the Musical takes the audience through the story of Horton Hears a Who! and Horton Hatches an Egg with lots of impressive singing and animated dancing along the way.

Horton the Elephant hears a sound coming from a small speck of dust and he places it on a clover. He discovers that the speck is actually a tiny planet and home to an entire community and he vows to protect Whoville because “a person’s a person, no matter how small.” Along the way, he is mocked by the other animals in the jungle for believing in something that they are unable to see or hear.

The beloved Cat in the Hat is on hand (with his signature red and white striped hat) to provide non-stop zany entertainment. One minute he’s a doctor, and the next he’s making it snow on one of the characters. The other animals are dressed in cleverly-conceptualised costumes that make them seem more like humans than animals, allowing us to relate to their very human traits and to see ourselves in their behaviour.

Although the story went over the heads of the younger ones a little and is more suitable for children above 5, the kids had fun watching the show. Our favourite bit was when the Mayor of Whoville got the audience involved in alerting Horton’s jungle friends to the existence of life on the speck of dust, reminding the kids of the importance of standing up for what you believe in and the power of teamwork. I also enjoyed the spirited rendition of Green Eggs & Ham by the cast during curtain call.
