FOX Fall/ Winter Collection 2014

We spend our weekends out and about the entire day, so I generally prefer to dress the kids comfortably enough to take us from a cafe to the park. I’m loving the new FOX Fall/ Winter collection for the casual but stylish pieces featuring some of our favourite Disney characters!

On a recent visit to FOX, we updated the kids’ wardrobe with several items from the collection. David is usually seen in a onesie so to make him more presentable, we got him some T-shirts in fashionably faded tones and berms to match. He looks so much more grown-up in his new outfits!

Anya favours tights and shorts and eagerly picked out some Minnie Mouse tees with sparkly embellishments. Adam values comfort above all and scored a couple of sleeveless tees and colourful character tees featuring Monsters University & Smurfs! We added FOX caps for fun in the sun as well as matching short-sleeved shirts for the boys to wear to more formal occasions.

Bubble Magic Giveaway!

In Singapore for the first time ever, Bubble Magic – Pep Bou’s Wonderful World of Bubbles will be at Jubilee Hall, Raffles Hotel from 10 – 14 September. Bubble Magic is a two-man show combining the fleeting beauty of bubbles with clowning, lighting, music and costumes. It’s full of fun and surprises and will delight people of all ages.

The show was created and directed by the master of bubbles, Pep Bou. The Spanish-born artiste has been playing with bubbles for more than three decades and has been honoured with an array of prestigious awards.

I’m so excited to be watching Bubble Magic with the kids. They will be thrilled and will think I’m the best mum ever! I can’t wait to see how they react when they see fishbowl bubbles, animal bubbles, bubbles on a high wire, sliding bubbles, puppet bubbles and even a train inside a bubble tunnel! I haven’t done a cafe post in the longest time, not because we haven’t been to any new places, but because it’s really hard to take decent photos when there are 3 restless kids to feed!

We checked out On The Table at Pasir Panjang on Saturday. It’s by the Lola’s Cafe people but in a much better location for us. There’s quite a bit of parking at the side road and a bus-stop right outside the cafe. Pasir Panjang MRT Station is about 250 metres away. We were the only customers there at about 10.30 am but the crowd started coming in from 11 am.

I love the happy yellow seats in the cafe, especially the elastic string chair. The kids were fighting taking turns to sit in it and I could barely get them to settle down and eat. The place is also significantly bigger than Lola’s Cafe so it’s easier to get a table even during peak periods.

We had a rather satisfying brunch: the food is very decent and the coffee (from Dutch Colony Coffee Co.) is great. I liked that my Eggs Ben ($13) was served on super-soft brioche and with a substantial side salad. Adrian (and the kids) enjoyed The Big One ($16). The bacon is the juicy fat type that I like and the mushrooms were really flavourful. The kids also shared waffles ($8) which stayed crisp till the end even under all that ice-cream.

We’ll definitely be back because the good food, excellent coffee, friendly service and reasonable prices are simply irresistible. I’m hoping to see some good ol’ IKEA plastic plates, cups and cutlery for the kids when we return so I don’t have to worry about them dropping and breaking stuff!

I’m really looking forward to the September holidays because we have so many activities lined up. POTTED POTTER will be in Singapore from 9 – 14 September and we are going to watch it! Just imagine all seven Harry Potter books condensed into 70 minutes with an actual Quidditch game thrown into the mix.

I’m a huge fan of the Harry Potter series and I’ve read all the books, watched all the movies, visited the exhibition, taken the studio tour, and even checked out the locations in Edinburgh that inspired J. K. Rowling so I’m incredibly excited about Potted Potter!

My Queenstown Heritage Trail

Another meaning activity for the September holidays is to embark on a heritage trail of your neighbourhood! You can check the National Heritage Board website to see if there’s a suggested trail for the area you are interested in and download a PDF version of the guide.

About a month ago, I explored Queenstown on ‘My Queenstown Heritage Trail‘. You can attempt the heritage trail on your own or sign up for a guided tour that is conducted on the last Sunday of every month. The tour is really popular and they are fully booked until next January! The Queenstown Heritage Trail begins at Queenstown MRT Station and can be further broken down into 5 smaller trails. While it is possible to attempt the trail on your own and at your own pace, being on the guided tour means that you get to listen to personal stories of the older residents and their interesting tales really add flavour to the trail.

Queenstown was named after Queen Elizabeth II to mark her coronation and is the place of many firsts: the first satellite estate, the first HDB flats, the first neighbourhood shopping centre, the first branch library, and the sports complex. Although I did not grow up in Queenstown, I have many fond memories of the area, especially of Queenstown Public Library. When I was a child, I would visit the library while my grandma and mum were at the Chinese sinseh nearby for tuina, and I spent many happy hours reading on my own.

Although many of the historical buildings have been torn down and replaced by modern structures, there is still so much to see and discover in Queenstown! Do consider signing up for ‘My Queenstown Heritage Trail’ or at least try it on your own because many of the buildings and old shops will be gone in a matter of months to make way for further development of the area.

Skyline Luge Sentosa Giveaway

The September school holidays are around the corner and I will be sharing some ways to keep your kids occupied during the holidays! I will also be running a few giveaways for the holidays and first up is the family-friendly Skyline Luge Sentosa!

Whenever we go to Sentosa for a staycation, we make it a point to visit Skyline Luge for a few rides. Anya is quite the daredevil and she loves speeding down the Luge track like a maniac. She’s still too small to ride the Luge on her own (you need to be at least 6 years old and 110 cm tall to ride solo) but is happy to ride tandem for now as long as she gets to steer. Adam is not as brave and doesn’t want to go as fast but still enjoys riding tandem. Another thing that gets the kids all excited is the Skyride chairlift. They love the feeling of dangling in midair and the views from the chairlift are simply breathtaking.

After taking the chairlift to the top, you can choose between the 688 metre Dragon Trail or the 628 metre Jungle Trail. They are both loads of fun so you should really try them both! The Dragon Trail is more bendy for those who enjoy zipping around corners at top speed. Personally, I like racing against another Luge to see who makes it down first!

Skyline Luge Sentosa is newly renovated and now boasts LED lighting to the Jungle Trail for an incredible night luge experience; eight additional ticketing counters and four additional photo counters; wheelchair-friendly ticketing and queue facilities; a new viewing gallery; and more seating and sheltered space for guests.

We took the Luge 5 times that day and the kids were still begging for more. Indeed, Once is Never Enough! You definitely want to have Skyline Luge Sentosa on your September school holidays to-do list.
