Kranji Countryside Farmers’ Market

We made it down to the Kranji Countryside Farmers’ Market today and there was lots to see and buy. This is the first-ever authentic local farmers’ market in Singapore and there are plans to have it every quarter. You can still make your way down tomorrow from 4pm onwards. Here are some photos from our excursion but do excuse the lack of captions; we had a very tiring day!

Zespri® SunGold Kiwifruit Launch Event

I love Zespri® Gold Kiwifruit because they are so juicy and sweet and I was delighted to be invited to the media launch of Zespri® SunGold Kiwifruit. The fact that the launch was held at GRUB was an added incentive for me.

Zespri® SunGold Kiwifruit has been under development since 2004; that’s ten long years of research! And it’s totally worth the wait because Zespri® SunGold Kiwifruit is not only beautiful to look at, it is incredibly delicious and packed with more than 20 essential vitamins and minerals. Zespri® SunGold Kiwifruit also has exceptionally high levels of antioxidants: 3 times more Vitamin C than oranges and 7 times more Vitamin E than apples and oranges in a fruit. And it’s completely natural; not genetically-modified!

At the launch, we were treated to a variety of drinks, hor d’oeuvres, a main course and some desserts, all incorporating Zespri® SunGold Kiwifruit. It’s amazing just how versatile the fruit is. I try to eat a kiwifruit a day when I’m at work and it’s such a convenient fruit to eat: just cut and scoop with a spoon or the Zespri® spife! Most importantly, the kids enjoy yellow kiwifruit too so they were more than happy to attack the Zespri® SunGold Kiwifruit that I brought home from the launch.

Absolute Fun with Absolute Fencing

We had a trial session with Absolute Fencing a few weekends ago and it was lots of fun for the whole family. I’ve always wanted to try fencing and was probably more excited about our trial class than the kids! I told them it’s what we see Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy doing in The Three Musketeers and that piqued their interest.

We learnt about the weapons used in fencing and practised some fencing positions and movements. Adam’s definitely too young and was fooling around the entire time but he enjoyed making beep beep noises with his weapon. It was really cute watching the two of them trying to fence though! Anya took it a lot more seriously and was able to follow the instructions. After our session was over, she said she really liked it.

Adrian and I had a go as well and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Of course, I had absolutely no strategy aside from rushing madly towards my opponent so I lost. All the lunging was quite tiring and I’m sure fencers all have very nice perky butts. It was a great workout and I’m seriously thinking about signing up for classes for myself and Anya. The location is very convenient for us so that’s a bonus!

Anya’s Artwork

Anya artspiration

Signed Anya up for a 3-day holiday art enrichment class and she came back with this. A little bit messy here and there but generally looks pretty good! Can you tell that her favourite colours are pink and purple? She was quite worried about her painting the first two days and didn’t think it was good enough even though I told her not to worry and just to give it her best shot. I think she did really well and the painting is now prominently displayed in our home.

Navy@Vivo 2014

We managed to get tickets for Navy@Vivo and so we took the kids to check out RSS Persistence. When we reached the waiting area for the Fast Craft Utility (FCU) ride however, we were told that the ride had been suspended because of the weather. The kids were so disappointed. We tried again after lunch, but after we had put on our life jackets, the ride was suspended AGAIN! We decided to wait around for a bit and eventually managed to get on the FCU. The kids had such a good time.

Navy@Vivo was a really well-organised event. EVERY SINGLE PERSON was patient, friendly and kind even though they had to be on their feet for hours and hours. We were all very impressed. Great job, Singapore Navy!

Book Launch of Dear Mister Cat by Elieth Sardinas

We were invited to the media book launch of ‘Dear Mister Cat’ by Elieth Sardinas. She’s one of the winners of Dear Nando’s, a competition to fulfil the dreams of two lucky individuals. Elieth’s dream was to create a book for children and ‘Dear Mister Cat’ is that dream come true! Written AND illustrated by Elieth, ‘Dear Mister Cat’ was launched at the Asian Festival of Children’s Content 2014.

While I was busy trying Nando’s delicious new item, Espetada Carnival (skewered PERi-PERi flame-grilled chicken thighs stuffed with feta cheese, garlic & parsley), Anya read ‘Dear Mister Cat’ and thoroughly enjoyed the charming story about a little girl’s search for her beloved pet cat. She was really pleased that she could meet an author and went around showing off her autographed book to everyone afterwards.

Le Noir at Marina Bay Sands

Le Noir

5 minutes into Le NoirI was on the edge of my seat, holding my breath as I watched the agile performer twist his body around the hoop suspended high in the air. It was such a spectacular sight and I was completely riveted.

I spent a substantial amount of time gasping and clutching at Adrian’s sleeve whenever a dangerous stunt was performed. And when two roller-skaters spun around on a tiny platform attached to each other only by a chain around their necks, I actually screamed out loud. My heart skipped a beat more than once during the death-defying Wheel of Death performance. There were also comic relief moments where I laughed so much I cried.

Le Noir is a fast-paced, magnificent treat for the senses. The adroit performers bring so much strength, beauty and control to each act, and the exquisite costumes, lights, and music all come together perfectly to give you an absolutely unforgettable experience.
