Barbie LIVE! in Singapore

When I was a little girl, I had only one Barbie doll and it was a Party Pink Barbie. My sister and I used to play with our dolls all the time but my sister (being stubbornly unconventional since childhood) had a dark-haired Whitney doll. I do have very fond memories of our games of make-believe with Barbie and friends!

Anya doesn’t have any Barbie dolls (yet) but has come across them at her cousin’s place so she’s familiar with Barbie. She was very excited about the Barbie LIVE! show and sat through the entire performance in rapt attention. Both kids relished the catchy music, energetic dancing and striking costumes. Anya could appreciate some of the jokes in the show and she was very annoyed with the ‘villains’ who were plotting against Barbie’s friend, Teresa. Adam had a good time clapping along to the music.

I liked that the show focussed on themes of friendship, loyalty and the importance of believing in yourself. By drawing upon lessons learnt from Barbie’s princess movies, the show managed to appeal to the little ones who are already familiar with these movies. While jaded ol’ me found the storyline just a tad predictable, the kids definitely enjoyed the show!
