I’ve heard so much about Antoinette that I was looking forward to Fifi’s birthday brunch there, but the entire experience was so disappointing. Service wasn’t great to begin with. We were the only people there for a while but couldn’t get hold of a server.
We were quite horrified that you have to pay $3 extra if you want the eggs in the breakfast item to be poached or scrambled. The food is quite expensive and such a cost should have been worked into the price of the item already. I’ve been to much smaller cafes that didn’t impose an additional charge to have eggs poached or scrambled!
The Antoinette’s Breakfast comes with orange juice/ coffee/ hot chocolate. My in-laws wanted to have tea instead and were told they had to pay an extra $5 each because “all our teas come in pots”. I’m sure it wouldn’t be that much of a hardship for the Antoinette people to pop a teabag into a cup of hot water just for the breakfast set.
The food was all of an acceptable standard but nothing was particularly outstanding. Fifi said her blinis were very good. Oh wait, the risotto was ‘outstanding’ but for the wrong reason. It was so unbelievably salty we had to send it back to the kitchen and ask for a new serving. Otherwise, everything else was just okay. I feel that the food is the same standard as what you would get at Bakerzin but significantly more expensive. Definitely not planning on a return visit.
