Adam at The Animal Resort

I accompanied Adam on his school excursion to The Animal Resort and it was really interesting to see a different side of Singapore. There are many small animals and birds found at The Animal Resort and there’s a horse as well. The kids were given a briefing on the different types of animals there and how to feed them before being set loose on the hapless creatures.

The animals there generally looked well cared for and they were clearly used to being surrounded by noisy little children. Adam was initially afraid to get too close to the animals to feed them and would fling the food at the animals instead of feeding it to them, but he eventually warmed up to the idea. It’s a pretty fun way for kids to spend a few hours but insect repellent is a must!

Navy@Vivo 2014

We managed to get tickets for Navy@Vivo and so we took the kids to check out RSS Persistence. When we reached the waiting area for the Fast Craft Utility (FCU) ride however, we were told that the ride had been suspended because of the weather. The kids were so disappointed. We tried again after lunch, but after we had put on our life jackets, the ride was suspended AGAIN! We decided to wait around for a bit and eventually managed to get on the FCU. The kids had such a good time.

Navy@Vivo was a really well-organised event. EVERY SINGLE PERSON was patient, friendly and kind even though they had to be on their feet for hours and hours. We were all very impressed. Great job, Singapore Navy!

Singapore Airshow 2014

Adrian took the kids to Singapore Airshow 2014 together with his parents, sister and sister’s boyfriend. Baby D and I stayed home because I didn’t think the noise would be good for his sensitive ears! Adrian got the tickets with a carpark pass so he could drive everyone all the way there in our car instead of having to take the shuttle bus.

It was a blazing hot day but I think they had a good time, and according to Adrian, everything was very well-organised. Anya refused to dress up for photos but Adam was sporting enough to take one. Some photos from their outing but no captions because I don’t know the context. Heh. The camera lens had a smudge in the centre but Adrian didn’t notice so all the photos are blurry in the middle!

Third Day of Chinese New Year: Visiting the Zoo!

I really appreciate the fact that Adrian is making the effort to take the kids out while I’m stuck at home during this confinement period. On the third day of CNY, he took them to the zoo! Adam has been going on and on for the longest time about wanting to take a ride on an elephant so that was the must-do for the day. And of course, they got to sit on ponies too! They look somewhat sulky in the pictures (it was really hot!) but I was told they had a lot of fun that day. There aren’t any photos of them on the elephant though!

Logos Hope – Bringing Knowledge, Help & Hope

Logos Hope is the world’s largest floating book store with more than 5,000 books available for sale and she is in Singapore for the CNY season. Adrian took the older kids yesterday while David and I were stuck at home. Would have loved to go too but at least Adrian took some photos for me to see what it’s like.

A friend of mine blogged about the last time Logos Hope visited Singapore in December 2011 and shared her thoughts about the other programmes on board the ship. You can read her post here.

Logos Hope is open to the public at The Promenade, VivoCity until Sunday, 2nd February. Entrance is free; children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.  The ship will be open from 10:00 am – 10:00 pm, Wednesday to Saturday; 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Monday & Tuesdays and 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Sundays.

2Degree Ice Art 2013-2014

It was a hot Saturday afternoon so we headed to 2Degree Ice Art 2013-2014 at Sheares Link (beside Marina Bay Sands) to cool down. 2Degree Ice Art is basically a bunch of ice sculptures of famous landmarks but the kids only cared about the sliding bit at the end! The kids had a lot of fun sliding, but the actual exhibition area is quite small so it does not justify the high price of the tickets. It was an unusual way to spend an afternoon though!

Flight of Fancy at Gardens by the Bay

We were invited to view the Flight of Fancy floral display at Gardens by the Bay and it was the first time there for the kids and they were so excited! Anya declared that since we were going to the gardens, she wanted to wear her dress with the print of potted plants and her brother had to wear his matching shirt.

Once we entered the Cloud Forest, the kids were awed by the 30-metre high waterfall and stood there enjoying the mist from the falls. They loved the colourful display of whimsical hot air balloons and kites and ran around excitedly pointing out the different things they spotted. I had a good time reading the fun facts that were placed around.

The kids were initially a bit hesitant to step on the walkways because they could see all the way through parts of it but soon they were happily skipping along admiring the different plants around them. Anya was very interested in the pitcher plants and Adam loved the bright flowers we saw along the way. I was happy to see the display of seeds dispersed by wind because Anya likes to pick up the winged Angsana seeds that are scattered all around the path we take to one of her classes.

After expending all his energy in his excitement at the Cloud Forest, Adam retreated to the stroller for our walk around the Flower Dome. Anya was so psyched to see baobab trees that we have read about in books and she was very amused by cacti that have been featured in the Roadrunner cartoons she’s watched. She insisted on taking photographs with all the different displays in the Flower Dome.

The kids had a great time on their first visit to Gardens by the Bay and the Flight of Fancy floral display really added to their enjoyment of the place! I’m glad they like the gardens as much as I do! Anya gave it her stamp of approval by making us promise that we would take her to the gardens again very soon. Flight of Fancy is on at Gardens by the Bay until Sunday, 21 July 2013. Check it out this weekend!
