For the first time in Singapore AND in Asia, CAVALIA is in town! A show like no other, the equestrian spectacular created in Canada by Normand Latourelle, co-founder of Cirque du Soleil, is a breathtaking production bringing together 50 majestic horses and 36 agile riders, aerialists, acrobats, dancers and musicians.
Cavalia artistically dramatises the enduring connection and relationship between Man and horses throughout time and across different landscapes. At the most basic level, it is circus with horses, but Cavalia is so much more than just that. Involving more than 350 costumes and 200 people, Cavalia has enthralled 4 million spectators and counting in 64 cities.
Personally, I think horses are beautiful creatures but I’m a little scared of them as well because they are so strong and powerful. But the mutual trust between the horses and the human performers in Cavalia was obvious and added to the overall intensity. The live music and singing, and the changing backdrop gave depth and provided the appropriate mood to each segment of the production.
I have never seen anything like Cavalia and It’s hard to say which part of the production I enjoyed the most. The stunning and realistic images projected on the 60 metre wide screen made me forget that we were sitting inside a tent and instead transported me to magical dream-like spaces. The acrobatic acts were lively, entertaining and amusing. The aerialists made even the most complicated movements and poses look effortless and graceful. I had my heart in my throat during the trick-riding stunts and could not help gasping out loud several times.
Cavalia received a well-deserved standing ovation at the end of the opening gala night performance. Cliché as it may sound, this is truly a performance you do not want to miss!
