Have you tried the new Ben & Jerry’s flavour, Couch Potato? I adore the wacky sweet and salty concoction! We were lucky enough to watch Peter Lind whip up a batch of the latest flavour at the Couch Potato ice-cream workshop. Peter is a Ben & Jerry’s Flavour Guru (there are five altogether) and is also the creator of my favourite flavour, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Just for that, I am extremely grateful to him!
Once we got to Ben & Jerry’s at Vivocity, we were offered cups of Couch Potato. Anya quickly devoured all the chocolate-covered potato chip clusters in her cup and then offered me the rest of her ice-cream. How cunning!
Peter shared with us the thought process, the trial-and-error, and the stages of experimentation that go on behind the creation of a new flavour. We tried some chocolate-covered BBQ potato chips (not bad, quite interesting) and chocolate-covered salt & vinegar chips (a bit weird!). He soaked a chip in a cup of milk to demonstrate to us why they couldn’t just throw a bunch of potato chips into ice-cream and had to come up with the chocolate-covered potato chip clusters they use for Couch Potato.
He then whipped up a fresh batch of Couch Potato on the spot so we all got more ice-cream to eat (yay!) and he even cut a pint of Couch Potato in half to show us the number of chocolate-covered potato chip clusters inside! It was a fun session and I also won an ice-cream scoop for reminding Peter that his potato chip was still soaking in the cup of milk. The workshop really got us in the mood for ChunkFest 2013! More on that soon!
