Old Seal Playground

We visited the seal playground at Blk 16 Dakota Crescent last Saturday. While the dragon playground in Toa Payoh was still in pretty good condition, this playground was quite rundown. Some bits of mosaic looked stained and the bridge was quite rusty. There were also plants growing here and there in the sand so Adrian decided that Anya was not allowed to play there and packed her off to the senior citizens’ fitness corner nearby. The tyre swings which were missing from the dragon playground could still be found at this one though. I really like the design of the playground! Too bad it’s not in better condition.

Cold Storage Kids Run 2011

I’ve signed Anya and Adrian up for the Cold Storage Kids Run 2011 which is happening on 22 May! They will be taking part in the ‘Sunny Family Chase’ which is an 800m fun run for kids between 2 and 4 years old. I’m guessing that Adrian will have to carry her on his shoulders for most of the race. There’s even a ‘Mamil Gold Stroller Chase’ for those between 6 and 23 months. I think it’s gonna be lots of fun and that the two of them will look really cute in the matching race tees. :)

Breakfast @ Loysel’s Toy

We went to check out Loysel’s Toy at Kampong Bugis today. It’s a quirky little cafe by the Papa Palheta people located in a somewhat ulu location. It was pretty packed when we there though. I’d checked out the menu online before we went and wanted to try the baked eggs but when we got there just before 10am (they open at 9am), they only had scrambled eggs, muesli and some baked goods like croissants and muffins. The rest of the menu was either not available at all or only available later in the day. Sigh. Well, the food is decent and the coffee is good but if they can’t really ensure that the entire menu is available during the opening hours, then I probably won’t be making a return trip.

Old Dragon Playground

I think that Singapore’s old playgrounds are much more interesting than the standard plastic playgrounds that we see in every single HDB estate and condominium these days. There are so few of them left so I’m trying to bring Anya to visit as many of them as I can before they are all demolished!

Yesterday, we went to the dragon playground. There’s one at AMK but the sand has been replaced by hard rubber padding. The one we went to is at Blk 28 Toa Payoh Lorong 6. We took bus 238 from the Toa Payoh Interchange. While we were playing there, I realised that these old playgrounds can really be quite dangerous. While we were walking along the dragon’s ‘spine’, I was a bit nervous because the bars barely came up to my waist and I felt like I could fall over any time! And while Anya was happily digging in the sand, I was busy worrying about whether there was any broken glass, or cat poop, or pee, etc.

When I was a kid, I didn’t think about such things and had a lot of fun playing in playgrounds like this dragon one! I guess the boring plastic playgrounds that we have now are better for a paranoid mother’s sanity. ;)

Hong Kong Day 3

Day 3 was all about Disneyland! We were there from opening to closing so that’s about 10 hours! I think Hong Kong Disneyland is really suitable for toddlers because it’s quite small and the rides are all rather kid-friendly. Anya had a lot of fun there and so did we. She really liked taking photos with the mascots that we met and enjoyed the parade too. She had mixed feelings about the fireworks though. One moment she would be going “Ooh!!” and the next she would declare that she was scared.

Our final day was spent checking out the shops at the Citygate outlets before we made our way to the airport and home to Singapore. Anya threw a fit when we had to take her new Mickey Mouse toy away so that it could be put through the x-ray machine at the airport. She wasn’t amused when one of the airport staff tried to cheer her up by zapping her with the hand-held metal detector. But she collapsed and fell asleep right after that so she must have been extra cranky at that moment.

Hong Kong Day 2

We spent most of Day 2 at Ocean Park! We had to give the exciting rides a miss but Anya enjoyed the show and the panda. After Ocean Park, we made our way to the Disneyland Hotel. Anya still can’t stop talking about the Mickey Mouse train that we took. :)

Hong Kong Day 1

We took the evening flight to HK on Friday and arrived around Anya’s bedtime so we all went to sleep and woke up refreshed for our activities the next day! So on the first day, we took the Star Ferry over to Central, then a bus to the Peak tram lower terminus and finally the tram up to the Peak. We checked out the view and then popped into Madame Tussauds before getting some lunch. After that, we went to the HK Zoological and Botanical Gardens for a walk before hunting down some roast goose for me. We ended our long day by watching the ‘Symphony of Lights’ from the Avenue of Stars and having some supper near our hotel.
