Reflections for Anya’s Eleventh Month

This month, you flew for the first time! We flew to Penang for Auntie Shan’s wedding. I was very happy that you won the unofficial competition (last baby on the plane to cry) and that you didn’t fuss very much at all! You were even better on the way back because you fell asleep even before the plane took off and didn’t wake up until we had landed.

You were quite a good baby in Penang as well. Your daddy wasn’t there with us the first day and night so we roomed with Auntie Debs. You went quite mad when you woke up in the middle of the night so I don’t think you should be expecting Auntie Debs to give you any cousins now that you’ve traumatised her so badly.

Back in Singapore, we had fun bringing you to the pool in your new floating swimsuit! You have more swimming things (suits, toys, floats, etc.) than your daddy and I combined! Daddy thinks that you look like a little terrorist strapped with bombs.

you’re da bomb!

You are kinder to your toys now and spend time stacking them instead of only knocking them over. You also had fun playing with Cousin Aidan and at the playground when we brought you over to Grandauntie Iris’s place for an early CNY celebration. You had your first lo hei there too.

You had breakfast at Mac’s and you enjoyed the hotcakes. And of course, you had more ice-cream!

You haven’t started walking yet but I’m not worried about that. You can stand on your own for a few seconds without falling and you know how to lower yourself carefully. You hold out your arm or leg when you’re being dressed instead of struggling like you used to. I’ve been trying to discipline you a lot more this month but you’ve been using emotional blackmail as your weapon by crying so pitifully when I smack you! You are very friendly and love waving at and calling out to strangers. You don’t give up until you can get a stranger to smile at you or respond to you in some way. You are also beginning to be able to identify and point to certain family members. You are very affectionate and try to wake us up in the morning by kissing us (and also by smacking us).

I thank God everyday for you. I look forward to the rest of the time with you but I already miss these eleven months that have passed. Just know this: you are loved!
