Reflections for Anya’s second month

It took me quite a while to get this written because there are so many things that need to be done at any given time! This was a month of many firsts for you. You went to many places for the first time and this included church, several restaurants, your grandparents’ place and your great grandmother’s place. You also gave us what I felt was your first REAL smile and your first laugh. You have been smiling a lot more recently but I haven’t heard you laugh again since that first time! You are a lot more interactive and seem to study the people around you and your surroundings with curiosity.

We have developed a ritual of going to Jurong Point every Tuesday morning when the cleaning lady comes over. I usually push you around the 24-hour NTUC Xtra before heading somewhere for breakfast and then we wait for your Ah Ma to come and meet us. I really enjoy just spending this quality time with you outside.

You saw more than your fair share of doctors this month and these ranged from a GP at Clementi Polyclinic to a paediatric surgeon at Mount Elizabeth. We brought you to Clementi Polyclinic for your jab but decided not to go ahead with it because of the long waiting time. When we went to see Dr Terence Tan a week later, we found out that what we thought was normal hormal swelling of one of your breasts was actually mastitis. We brought you to Dr C.K. Sim at Mt. E the very next day and the swelling had to be incised and drained. You cried so loudly during the procedure that I was quite traumatised. It was also the first time we saw you crying with tears in your eyes! We had to clean and dress the wound every day but we were relieved to see you healing very quickly. A week later, you had to see Dr Sim again for a follow-up and one week after that, you finally went for your jabs at the Kinder Clinic.

You enjoy car rides and usually fall asleep when we hit the expressway. You also love baths and you are always reluctant to get out of the tub. You dislike tummy-time and sometimes will just lie there rubbing your face against whatever surface you’re on. When you do make an effort to push up on your arms and lift your head up, you usually start fussing after a short time!

We were initially worried that you were too light and then for a while, we were worried that you were too heavy! But you don’t seem to overeat and have a way of telling us when you’ve had enough to drink! Many of your nicknames seem to be based on your appearance. Your father used to call you ‘Anya who looks like Ponyo’ but for a period of time, he called you ‘Anya who looks like she ate Ponyo’. You are also Meatball to us, Chubbs to your Auntie Deborah and many other things to many other people.

I look forward to the rest of the time with you but I already miss these two months that have passed. Just know this: you are loved!

Home alone with Meatball

I’m feeling quite accomplished at the moment! My mum is playing mahjong today so I’m looking after Anya on my own which is a really rare occurence for me. So far, I’ve managed to put a load of her stuff into the washing machine, apply for a passport for her and order a Father’s Day present for the husband. After this, I shall feed her again and then get myself something to eat! Ok, I know most SAHMs do all that and waaaay more every single day but I’m still learning! Anyway, this post is filtered so Adrian doesn’t know what he’s getting for his first Father’s Day. Don’t tell him!

Little & Large is an online store selling matching father and kid t-shirts. Really cute even though many of the designs are only suitable for father and son! At US$32 a set, it’s not exactly cheap but not ridiculously expensive either. This is what I ordered for the husband:

The ‘Me’ and ‘Mini Me’ design is really appropriate for Adrian and Anya because she looks so much like him! And Adrian has always wanted a ‘Who’s Your Daddy?’ tee so I hope he likes his present! :)

Anya’s Day Out with Selena & Asher

Anya & I met up with Cousin Selena & Baby Asher at Raffles City yesterday. Since the shopping centre is right at the MRT station and has very decent nursing/ baby changing facilities, Raffles City is quite a baby-friendly place. We had lunch at Shokudo in the basement and coffee at Starbucks before shopping for a bit at Robinson’s. Among other things, I bought the ‘Your Baby Can Read’ DVD set. Yah, I’m unbelievably kiasu when it comes to education and stuff like that. Heh. It was Anya’s first time on the MRT and she was perfectly fine on the trip there. On the way back however, she started screaming loudly and crying inconsolably just after the train pulled out from the Clementi station. It’s a really long way to Jurong East from Clementi and everyone in the carriage was staring at me like I was the World’s Worst Mother! Argh. I decided to alight at Jurong East (instead of remaining on the train all the way to Boon Lay) to see if I could comfort her or find a place to feed her if necessary. We got off at Jurong East and I called Adrian to come and rescue us. By the time I got off the phone with him, she’d calmed down and was perfectly fine and remained that way until her daddy came to get us! I’m absolutely traumatised by the experience. Don’t think I’ll take the MRT with her again for a long, long time!!

Anya’s Baby Products!

Anya has loads of skincare products! She definitely has more products than her daddy and may even have more than me so I decided to take photos of all her stuff! Check it out:

The Body Shop

Kiehl’s

Erbaviva

The Body Shop and Kiehl’s products are from her Auntie Debs. I really like the sweet pastels of The Body Shop line and it comes with a super soft washcloth and hairbrush. The Kiehl’s one has baby lip balm! Haven’t tried the products yet except for the Kiehl’s diaper ointment but they look very promising. The Erbaviva washbag and baby oil are from Adrian’s friends, Jansen and Liz, who bought them in the US. The washbag comes with little sachets that can be immersed in her bathwater and used like a washcloth. Anya seems more relaxed after her bath when we use the sachet. Both the washbag and baby oil smell really good. I may want to steal some of her stuff to use! Mwahaha..
